Aleksandra Wozniak pounded out 10 aces en route to a straight-set, opening-round win over Alexandra Cadantu of Romania Monday at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Wozniak, a native of Blainville, Que., moved into the second round by downing Cadantu 6-0, 6-3. She will play 15th-seeded Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Melanie Oudin of the United States, in the second round.

Ranked 48th in the world, Wozniak made it to the quarterfinals of a tournament in Dallas last week.

Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., will play Santiago Giraldo of Colombia in his first-round matchup Tuesday while top-seeded Daniel Nestor of Toronto and Max Mirnyi of Belarus will play American duo Steve Johnson and Jack Sock in their first-round doubles match.
