FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Austria's Jurgen Melzer and Germany's Philipp Petzschner beat Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski of Poland in straight sets Saturday to win the U.S. Open men's doubles title.

Melzer and Petzschner, seeded ninth, rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the sixth-seeded Polish team in just 49 minutes.

The winners, who captured the doubles crown at Wimbledon last year, fired 23 winners in the match and watched as their mistake-prone opponents commit 12 unforced errors in 16 games.

Melzer and Petzschner converted 5-of-7 break points and won 88 percent of their first serves, splitting $420,000 for the victory.

Top-seeded Americans Bob and Mike Bryan, the defending champions, were knocked out in a first-round upset last week.
