FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -- Last year's runner-up Caroline Wozniacki has been installed at the top seed for the U.S. Open, which will commence Monday in New York. Reigning champion Kim Clijsters is seeded second.

Clijsters beat Wozniacki in last year's final at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to claim her second U.S. Open title.

World No. 1 superstar Serena Williams, the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, will miss the 2010 U.S. Open while she continues to recover from some foot surgery that was performed last month. Williams is a three-time U.S. Open titlist.

The world No. 2 Wozniacki, fresh off her title in Montreal this week, and the former world No. 1 Clijsters are followed by two-time winner Venus Williams, former world No. 1 and 2008 runner-up Jelena Jankovic and French Open finalist Samantha Stosur.

The top-10 seeds are rounded out by French Open champion Francesca Schiavone, Wimbledon runner-up Vera Zvonareva, China's Li Na, Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska and Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka.

Former top-ranked star and former U.S. Open winner Maria Sharapova is seeded 14th.

The women's draw will be revealed on Thursday.
