The Venezuelans were seeing nothing but red after being swept by the Canadians at the 2013 Fed Cup in Medellin, Colombia Thursday.

The first round-robin singles match saw Sharon Fichman of Toronto, Ont., beat Andrea Gamiz 6-2, 6-3, while Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., downed Adriana Perez 6-1, 6-4. In doubles, Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, Ont.) and Stephanie Dubois (Laval, Que.) dominated Carmen Blanco and Gabriela De Santis 6-0, 6-1.

The Canadians will square off against Colombia for first place in pool A Friday, with the winner earning a spot in the final against the winner of pool B — one of Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Mexico — on Saturday.
