TORONTO - It didn't take long for Mike Bouchard to figure out his daughter, Eugenie, wanted to be a tennis player.

In fact, he made that discovery before she ever stepped foot on a court -- at the age of five.

"It started in the basement with a little ball and a paddle," Bouchard, an investment banker, recalled on Tuesday.

"But she started hitting it too hard and she was breaking things around the house. So we got her outside and hired some coaches."

The rest, everyone can agree, is Canadian tennis history.
