Milos Raonic cruised into the third round of the Cincinnati Open on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Robby Ginepri.

It was never in doubt for Raonic, who powered past his American opponent with 11 aces.

He will next face Steve Johnson of the U.S. in third-round action.

Meanwhile, Eugenie Bouchard had a short stay in Ohio, losing a second-round match on Wednesday to former Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

The defeat follows Bouchard's shocking second-round defeat at the Rogers Cup last week in her hometown of Montreal.

Vasek Pospisil went the distance Wednesday against Roger Federer, but ultimately fell victim to the Swiss legend.

The 24-year-old from Vernon, B.C. lost 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-2 in a second-round match that was tight as can be until the Canadian fell apart in the final set.

Neither competitor was able to break his opponent’s serve until Pospisil gained the advantage in the final game of the middle frame.

After that, it was all Federer. The veteran broke Pospisil early twice to build a 4-1 lead before closing out the match.

In men’s doubles action, Toronto’s Daniel Nestor and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain and Santiago Giraldo of Colombia in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Nestor and Zimonjic will next face French pair Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the third round.

Pospisil and American partner Jack Sock took down Leander Paes of India and Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.

In women’s doubles action, Ottawa’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Polish partner Alicja Rosolska were run over in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, by Russian duo Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the first round.
