Milos Raonic has talked about finding a sliver of opportunity in Toronto this week.
He might have discovered a wide-open chance.
Raonic advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Rogers Cup with another nail-biting win, this time 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 over Julien Benneteau of France on Centre Court at the Rexall Centre on Thursday night.
"Today I was much more in a comfort zone," Raonic said. "Created my opportunities. I kept on fighting and put together the things I needed to do."
The better news might have arrived earlier.
In a day full of surprises, two of the world's top-ranked players were bounced from the tournament, while another, Richard Gasquet of France, withdrew to injury, further propping open Raonic's window of opportunity as he pursues a coveted hometown crown.
