The top seed at the Rogers Cup will have to live up to his billing in the early going.

As one of the tournament’s top-8 seeds, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic received a first-round bye. But after that, the grunt work begins.

Djokovic, on hand to assist with Friday’s official draw ahead of the men’s event that begins at the Rexall Centre this weekend, will face either 22nd-ranked Gael Monfils or 35-ranked Radek Stepanek in his opening match.

If that’s not enough, he’s also on a collision course with former Wimbledon champ and eighth seed Andy Murray, with the two possibly meeting in a quarterfinal.

“Terrible draw,” Djokovic said with a laugh, jokingly expressing his disapproval of how the randomly determined draw was working against him.
