The Rogers Cup men's tennis tournament in Toronto suffered a tough blow Wednesday when Rafael Nadal dropped out because of a wrist injury.
The world No. 2 and defending champion was slated to help conduct the main draw on Friday at Queen's Park.
It marks only the second time Nadal has missed the Canadian event since debuting in 2004.
The tournament, which now features eight of the world's top 10 players, starts Saturday with qualifying at the Rexall Centre at York University.
