Third-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic needed just over an hour on Sunday to claim his fifth ATP title.
The Thornhill, Ont., native upset top-seeded Tomas Berdych, of the Czech Republic, in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
After avenging his U.S. Open loss to Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the Thai semifinal on Saturday, Raonic used his big serve to convert on 18 aces through two sets on the way to beating Berdych, the world No. 6., for the second time in as many years.
Raonic, 22, recently fell to No. 11 in the world but could surge back into the top 10 for just the second time in his career following Sunday’s win.
