The young gun got the better of the wily veteran Saturday in an all-Canadian battle at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif.

Milos Raonic, Canada's top-ranked singles player at No. 17 in the world, and partner Feliciano Lopez of Spain eliminated his Davis Cup compadre Daniel Nestor and Mahesh Bhupathi, the third seeds, with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win in doubles play at the ATP Masters 1000 event. Raonic and Lopez finished the match with a 15-2 edge in aces.

It was the first career meeting between Raonic, 22, and 40-year-old Nestor and the first time since 2007 that the doubles specialist has made a first-round exit at the Indian Wells tourney.

Raonic and Lopez will meet either America wildcards Mardy Fish and James Blake or Spaniards Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero in the second round.

Raonic is still waiting to play his first singles match in the tournament. He received a first-round bye and will face 63rd-ranked Michael Llodra of France in the second round.
