Canadian tennis sensation Milos Raonic looks to defend his title at the SAP Open in San Jose, Calif., this week.

Raonic, currently ranked 13th in the world and seeded No 1 in San Jose, received a bye in the first round and will not play his first match until Thursday.

The Thornhill, Ont., native won the tournament the last two years, defeating Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in 2011 and Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in 2012.

Ottawa's Jesse Levine played American Bradley Klahn in one of two opening matches late Monday night, while Vasek Pospisil of Vancouver will square off against Russia's Evgeny Donskoy on Tuesday.

On the women's side, Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., and Toronto's Sharon Fichman will be in action this week at the WTA Challenger Series event in Cali, Colombia. The trio helped Canada qualify for the Fed Cup World Group II playoffs last weekend.
