Raonic, Pospisil lose in quarters

Canadian Milos Raonic was eliminated Friday from the Thailand Open in Bangkok, losing 6-3 7-6(3) to Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.

Nieminen, the No. 7 seed, advances to the semifinals against Richard Gasquet of France.

Raonic, the No. 3 seed, had eight aces and no double-faults but could not break Nieminen's serve.

It was the first meeting between Raonic, 21, and Nieminen, 31.

At Kuala Lumpur, Canadian Vasek Pospisil, 22, also was eliminated in a quarterfinal, losing 6-3, 6-4 to Juan Monaco of Argentina at the Malaysian Open.

Monaco, the second seed at the event, will play Kei Nishikori of Japan in a semifinal.

At Beijing, Canadian Eugenie Bouchard lost in the first qualifying round of the China Open, a WTA tournament.

Bouchard, ranked 170th in the world, lost 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 to Russian Elena Vesnina.
