MUNICH, GERMANY - Second seed Feliciano Lopez and oft-injured German favorite Tommy Haas were among Friday's quarterfinal winners at the $525,000 BMW Open, a clay-court French Open tuneup.

The Spanish lefthander Lopez blasted 14 aces and leveled fifth-seeded promising Australian Bernard Tomic 6-4, 6-2, while the 134th-ranked wild card Haas upset eighth-seeded former Aussie Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in an hour-and-a-half at Iphitos Tennis Club.

The 34-year-old former world No. 2 Haas, who been plagued by shoulder problems for years, was a Munich runner-up back in 2000.

In two other quarterfinal affairs, third-seeded Croat Marin Cilic defeated sixth-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 in a rematch of the 2010 final here and fourth-seeded 2007 Munich titlist Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany grounded Aussie qualifier Marinko Matosevic 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Youzhny beat Cilic in the final two years ago and is a two-time BMW Open runner-up.

Saturday's quality semifinals will pit Lopez against Kohlschreiber and Cilic versus Haas.

This week's winner will earn $95,000.
