Raonic into round of 16 in Barcelona
By QMI Agency

Fifteenth-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada advanced to the round of 16 at the Barcelona Open Wednesday.

Raonic, ranked 28th in the world, downed Simon Greul of Germany 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) in the second round of the tournament, running his record on clay to 6-1.

The 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., will face Ivan Dodig of Croatia Thursday for a berth in the quarterfinals. Dodig posted a straight-set win over third-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden to set up the match with Raonic.

Raonic had 10 aces in the match, which took two and a half hours to complete. Despite leading the third-set tiebreaker 6-2, he allowed Greul to storm back to make it close.

In doubles play, Canada's Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi of Belarus beat Pablo Cuevas of Argentina and Czech Lukas Dlouhy in their opening-round match. The second seeded pair won 6-2, 4-6, 14-12.
