Raonic on to third round at Monte Carlo
By QMI Agency

Milos Raonic moved into the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters Tuesday with a straight-set win over Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.

The rising Canadian tennis star took 91 minutes to beat Gulbis 6-4, 7-5 despite squandering his first chance to close out the match on serve. Leading 5-4 and serving, Raonic lost five straight points as Gulbis squared the set but the 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., roared back to win the next two games.

"I don't think I've ever done that before," Raonic said of losing five straight points. "Knowing here it's tough to get the free points with the serve ... I think I just played a sloppy first one, then after that just nerves got a bit in the way. But I was happy with how I sort of put it all together right after. I was able to reel off a few points in a row. I just tried as best as I could to keep it under control. I'm happy with the outcome."

It was just the second clay-court win on the ATP circuit for Raonic but set up a third-round meeting with the winner of the match between a pair of Spaniards, fourth-seeded David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez. Raonic lost to Ferrer in the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.
