Chalk up another first for rising Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic.

The 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., posted his first career ATP win on clay Sunday in Monaco, downing Frenchman Michael Llodra 6-3, 0-6, 6-0 in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

"It just sort of took a little bit of figuring out what to do," Raonic said. "I'm still sort of trying to find my game, what the right way to play on clay is for me. I was fortunate enough to get through that one and sort of give myself another chance to pick up more experience in a real match situation."

Raonic, ranked 35th in the world, broke Llodra's serve three times in the deciding set to post the win in 79 minutes. He also beat Llodra in the second round of the Australian Open two months ago.

The Monte Carlo tournament isn't the first time Raonic has competed on a clay court, though. He won a pair of matches for Canada against Mexico at the Davis Cup last month.

Raonic will meet Latvia's Ernests Gulbis in the second round of the ATP 1000 event.
