To Milos Raonic, Somdev could have been some sort of sleeping aid.

And Raonic, seeded 31st after rising to No. 34 in the world this week, didn't awake from his nap in time to move into the third round of the Sony Ericsson Open Friday in Miami.

The 20-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., had a bye in the first round and should have been able to make short work of Somdev Devvarman, but the 26-year-old Indian right-hander, ranked 73rd in the world, posted a straight-set 7-6 (5), 7-5 win. Raonic, who started 2011 ranked in the 150s, lost for just the fifth time in 21 matches this year.

In the opening set, Raonic got off to a slow start. He trailed 2-5 before fighting back to level it, saving four set points, but wound up losing in a tiebreak. He led the second set early but Devvarman stormed back to finish him off.

Next up for Raonic is the Rolex Masters, another ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo and his first clay-court tournament of the year. The Rolex tourney starts April 10.
