Raonic moves on at BNP Paribas Open
By QMI Agency

Canadian Milos Raonic advanced to the second round of the BNP Paribas Open Friday in Indian Wells, Calif.

Raonic, ranked 37th in the world and a wild-card entry at the event, beat Marsel Ilhan of Turkey 6-2, 7-6 (4) for his first career win in the main draw of a ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.

Despite finishing with a first-serve percentage below 50, Raonic was able to get past the 120th-ranked Turk for his 15th win of the season.

It was also the 15th time the 20-year-old has played a tiebreaker this year. He has a 12-3 record in tiebreaks, tops on the ATP Tour.

Raonic will face American Mardy Fish, the 13th seed, in the second round Sunday. Fish had a first-round bye.

It will be the second meeting between Raonic and Fish in less than a month. In February, Raonic beat Fish in the semifinals of a tournament in Memphis.

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal and second-seeded Roger Federer are also competing in the BNP Parabis Open.
