SYDNEY -- Former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro will resume his comeback in Sydney next month.

Del Potro received a wild card to play in the Sydney International, a hardcourt Australian Open tune-up.

The 22-year-old Argentine star missed most of the 2010 season after suffering a right wrist injury at the Aussie Open back in January. The 6-foot-6 del Potro had surgery to repair his wrist in May, and did not return to the ATP World Tour until the last week of September. He appeared in two events, in Bangkok and Tokyo, and went 0-2 before shutting it down for the remainder of the season.

Del Potro's world ranking has dropped from No. 4 all the way down to 259.

The South American slugger stunned Roger Federer in five sets in last year's U.S. Open finale, handing the super Swiss his first loss there since 2003. Del Potro missed this year's U.S. Open because of the injury.
