LONDON, England -- Tomas Berdych notched a straight-set win over Andy Roddick in round-robin play at the ATP World Tour Finals.
Berdych earned a 7-5, 6-3 triumph Wednesday to remain alive for a berth in the semifinals of the exclusive tournament. He lost his first match in Group A on Monday with a setback to Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic can become the first semifinal qualifier later today with a win over top-ranked Rafael Nadal in the second match from Group A. Nadal beat Roddick in his first match on Monday.
Roddick had two set points in the 10th game of the first set, but failed to convert and Berdych converted his only break-point chance of the set for a 6-5 lead before holding serve to win the set.
Berdych then took a 3-2 lead in the second set with a break of serve and broke Roddick again in the ninth game to claim the match.
The first six days of this event features round-robin play and the top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals. The lucrative final will take place on Sunday.
