LONDON -- Novak Djokovic opened Group A round-robin play at the ATP World Tour Finals with a straight-set triumph over Tomas Berdych.

Djokovic, seeded third in the exclusive eight-man field, needed just 88 minutes to produce a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Monday. The Serbian star won the season-ending title two years ago when the tournament was located in Shanghai.

Monday's win also gave Djokovic a measure of revenge, as he lost to Berdych in the semifinals at Wimbledon in July. Berdych, seeded sixth for this event, went on to lose to Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon final this summer and has struggled ever since.

The Czech native has a match record of just 8-13 since Wimbledon, including a first-round loss at the U.S. Open and a singles loss to Djokovic in the Davis Cup semifinals. He also lost first-round matches at the China Open, Stockholm Open and Swiss Indoors before a third-round exit two weeks ago at the Paris Masters.

Monday's second Group A match will feature the top-ranked Nadal against Andy Roddick. The American former world No. 1 was the final qualifier for the event.

Group B has the day off after Roger Federer and Andy Murray were winners on Sunday. Federer, a four-time champion of this event, topped Spain's David Ferrer, 6-1, 6-4, while Murray posted a 6-2, 6-4 rout of Sweden's Robin Soderling.

The first six days of this event will feature round-robin play and the top two players from each group will advance to the semifinals. The lucrative final will take place on Sunday.
