STOCKHOLM -- The other Swiss, Stanislas Wawrinka, highlighted Monday's opening-round winners at the Stockholm Open.

The fifth-seeded Wawrinka waltzed past Italian Andreas Seppi 6-2, 6-2 on the indoor hardcourts at Royal Tennis Hall. Wawrinka's iconic countryman, Roger Federer, is this week's top seed in Sweden.

In other Day-1 action, Finland's Jarkko Nieminen overcame German Michael Berrer 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Swedish wild card Michael Ryderstedt topped Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.

The former top-ranked Federer is joined in the field here by French Open runner-up, Swedish star Robin Soderling, and Wimbledon runner-up Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic. The Australian Open champion Federer was whipped by Brit and Aussie Open runner-up Andy Murray in last week's Shanghai Masters finale.

Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, who is not defending his title this week, beat Belgian Olivier Rochus in last year's Stockholm finale.
