KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis highlighted Tuesday's first-round winners at the Malaysian Open tennis event.
The sixth-seeded former Australian Open runner-up blitzed Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-1 on the indoor hardcourts at Putra Stadium.
Baghdatis will meet Colombian Santiago Giraldo in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
In other Day-2 action, Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov handled French qualifier Laurent Recouderc 6-3, 6-1, Canadian qualifier Milos Raonic topped Russian Igor Kunitsyn 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, and Russian qualifier Igor Andreev erased Japanese Go Soeda 6-1, 6-4. Andreev's second-round opponent on Wednesday will be fellow Russian Nikolay Davydenko, this week's second seed and defending champion. The world No. 6 Davydenko bested Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in last year's Kuala Lumpur finale.
The winner of this $947,750 event will collect $165,500.
