It must be the vuvuzuela noise that is keeping people away.

Attendances at the World Cup have passed 3,000,000 despite the majority of games not being sold out. After the Germany-Spain semi-final, 3,057,000 people have attended 62 matches. That averages to 49,134 a game.

There are still two games left to play. The figures place South Africa third in terms of total and average, behind the United States in 1994 and Germany in 2006.

South Africa's matches had a potential total capacity of 3.42 million. Critics claim FIFA's figures inflate the actual crowds.
