MUNICH - France and Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery will undergo groin surgery Friday, his club team announced Thursday.

Ribery will undergo a "routine procedure," according to Bayern's website.

France was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup after the group stage, as it was unable to win a match in Group A. Ribery's surgery was planned after Bayern's club season, but put off until France was eliminated from the World Cup.

Ribery is suffering from a sportsman's groin and incipient hernia. Ribery will not miss much time and should be ready for the start of preseason training.

The Bundesliga season starts in mid-August.
