Mexico tops Italy in World Cup warm-up

Brussels, Belgium - Carlos Vela and Alberto Medina scored to lead Mexico to a 2-1 win over Italy on Thursday a friendly between World Cup qualifiers at King Baudouin Stadium.

Vela scored in the 17th minute and Medina doubled the lead with six minutes to go in the match, and Mexico held on, despite an 89th-minute goal from Leonardo Bonucci.

Mexico opens the World Cup on June 11 against host South Africa and also plays France and Uruguay in Group A. Defending champion Italy opens against Paraguay on June 14, and also plays New Zealand and Slovakia in Group F.

Bastian Schweinsteiger converted a pair of penalty kicks and Philipp Lahm also scored in the second half as Germany rallied to beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 3-1 at Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt, Germany.

Germany opens the World Cup against Australia on June 14, and also plays Ghana and Serbia in Group D.

Jesus Navas scored the lone goal the 86th minute as Spain topped fellow World Cup qualifier South Korea 1-0 at Sportanlage Reichenau in Innsbruck, Austria.

South Korea opens the World Cup on June 12 against Greece, and also plays Argentina and Nigeria in Group B. Spain opens the World Cup on June 16 against Switzerland, and also plays Chile and Honduras in Group H.
