BERLIN -- Leave it to the English tabs to have an interesting take in advance of Wednesday's World Cup semi-final between France and Portugal.
The racy Daily Star implored England fans to root for France, a shot against Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who many in England feel played to big a role in Wayne Rooney's ejection from their quarter-final loss.
"Listen very carefully, we will say zis only once," the front-page story began. "Today, it's the duty of every Englishman and woman to support, zoot alors, le French!
"Yes, we know they're a bunch of garlic-munching, soap-dodgers, but tonight their national team (who are mostly African or Caribbean, in any case) take on Portugal in the World Cup semi-final.
"And do you really want that winker Ronaldo through the final. In the name of Roo, NON!"
Ronaldo, incidently, was booed mercilessly every time he touched the ball in the 1-0 loss to the French at Munich.
