Wednesday’s World Cup semifinal match between Netherlands and Argentina was so boring even the play-by-play guy stopped paying attention.

You have to feel bad for Peter Drury, the classy British soccer commentator, as he clearly blanked out while Dirk Kuyt, the fourth shooter for the Netherlands, slotted his penalty kick past Argentina’s goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

The tone in his voice would indicate to viewers that the Dutch just advanced to their second straight World Cup final.

But a quick glance at the penalty count would show us that kick put the Dutch within one and still trailing 3-2.

Not too sure how Peter got it all mixed up, but we’re assuming he was just tuning in again like the rest of us.

Here’s to better memories of the well respected soccer poet.
