Camilo has put the Vancouver Whitecaps in an awkward spot.

The MLS Golden Boot winner, and Vancouver’s top player, is under contract with the Canadian club through 2014.

But that didn’t stop Mexican club Queretaro tweeting out a photo Monday of the Brazilian striker wearing their kit, welcoming him to the team.

The picture followed a tweet welcoming newcomer Diego Guastavino to the club as well.

Whitecaps FC President Bob Lenarduzzi met with media a few hours after the tweets to help clear up the situation.

“(Today's events were) unacceptable and inappropriate ... we'll let the dust settle and be in contact with Camilo,” he told a throng of reporters. "I believe the situation has been misrepresented to Camilo by his agent."

The Whitecaps believe there was a breakdown in communication with Camilo and his representatives.

“Camilo and his agent understood that Whitecaps FC picked up his 2014 contract option when contacted last week,” the Whitecaps said in a statement.
