A “perfect storm” of injuries, births and national team call-ups has Toronto FC bench boss Ryan Nelsen pulling “names out of a hat” ahead of Saturday’s massive game against the visiting New England Revolution.

“I’ll pull your name soon, Kurt,” Nelsen joked with reporters on Friday afternoon.

It’s all he could do considering the mind-blowing number of absences the Reds will have across their back line over the next few weeks.

Defensive stalwarts Steven Caldwell (quadriceps) and Justin Morrow (hamstring) remain out through injury. Reserve fullback Warren Creavalle (hamstring) will miss Saturday, too.

To make matters worse — or better, if you’re the Blooms — starting fullback Mark Bloom arrived back from Florida on Friday night after welcoming his daughter into the world.

“He’ll probably be struggling from sleep deprivation,” Nelsen added.

He could be playing out of position, too, if Nelsen starts this match how he finished the last one.
