KANSAS CITY - A ship without a captain.

Toronto FC’s back four drifted aimlessly through much of Saturday night’s 4-1 loss here in the U.S. heartland.

Steven Caldwell, the club’s injured skipper, wasn’t far away.

Tucked inside the visitor’s box here at Sporting Park, Caldwell watched Toronto’s patchwork back four concede a pair of silly first-half penalties that were, in the end, the club’s undoing.

The first was questionable. The second was irrefutable.
