Toronto FC’s Jermain Defoe will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks after scans revealed the 31-year-old is suffering from a groin strain. The club announced the findings two days after Defoe missed TFC’s away win over the Montreal Impact.
Defoe was replaced late in the second half of a game at D.C. United last Wednesday, but didn’t appear to be in any pain. The Englishman, who leads the Reds in scoring with 11 goals this season, will likely miss Toronto’s next two matches away at Columbus and Kansas City.
Defoe was scheduled to appear at Wednesday night’s MLS all-star game in Portland, but had to pull out.
