Meaningless friendlies are only senseless to those outside the white lines.

Many Toronto FC fans didn't care to see the Reds fall 3-2 to Tottenham at BMO Field Wednesday, either.

But sometimes pointless exhibitions produce meaningful moments on an individual basis -- moments that can positively impact players' careers as fast as they can sink them.

Toronto FC drafted Daniel Lovitz 24th overall in January despite knowing a slight knee injury might jeopardize his career.

Having played four years at Elon (North Carolina), the 22-year-old was largely unknown.

The left-sided midfielder also appeared to be a non-factor to start this MLS campaign after being sent down to TFC's USL affiliate in Wilmington.
