OTTAWA - Ottawa Fury FC announced Thursday, at long last, the signing of Toronto FC defender Ryan Richter on loan from the Major League Soccer (MLS) club.

The Fury's landing of the 25-year-old, 6-foot-2 American was the worst-kept secret in the league lately as Richter has been training with the North American Soccer League club for a month.

Midway through the spring season, Fury FC coach Marc Dos Santos made no secret he wanted to bring in an experienced defender to help shore up the backfield.

"We are always looking to get stronger as a Club," Dos Santos said Thursday. "We believe we need more options and depth in our backline."
