In the bizarro world of Major League Soccer, a Brazilian international is expendable.

That’s right, the guy poised to play between the pipes for the world’s top team won’t be missed when he leaves Toronto FC for the World Cup later this week.

Julio Cesar, UEFA’s top netminder in 2010, has become redundant in a league that forces clubs to live and die by the salary cap.

Cesar’s a nice to have — due to his international status — rather than a need.

He did nothing wrong. He made no mistakes during his brief time at Toronto FC.

The 34-year-old, from my seat, was extremely good in away wins at Seattle and Columbus.

But the fact remains that former No. 1 Joe Bendik has been just as solid or better in three appearances this season.

It’s why the red carpet that welcomed Cesar to TFC back in February has yet to be dusted off.

It likely won’t be rolled out again when Cesar departs for Brazil later this week.
