A charming little Jay Z ditty entitled ‘F*** with me you know I got it’ blared inside the Toronto FC locker room at BMO Field following Saturday’s game against the visiting New York Red Bulls.

The tune was, how we say, a tad X-rated, but the message couldn’t have been more appropriate. Three days after being left off England’s World Cup roster by manager Roy Hodgson, a move he called the lowest point of his career, Toronto FC forward Jermain Defoe set out to prove on Saturday that he does have it, despite being overlooked by Hodgson. And prove it he did. The former Tottenham star, who has scored 19 goals in 55 games for England in years past, scored his fourth goal in five games for TFC in typical Defoe fashion — a powerful strike that left the goalkeeper and defenders scrambling.
