TORONTO - The first year TFC took to the pitch, in 2007, I purchased season tickets in partnership with the dad of my Sun colleague Frank Zicarelli.

Although the Reds finished the year 6-17-7, I tell anyone willing to listen (in worse-case scenarios, the cat) that the atmosphere at BMO Field was the best I’ve ever experienced at a Toronto sporting event.

The team stunk, but the support was incredible and the fans passionate.

The only reason I gave up my seats was because TFC finished with 10 losses in their last 14 games and greedy MLSE decided to raise ticket prices for the next season. It was the principle of the thing.

We all know how pathetic TFC has been over the years — failing to qualify for the playoffs in each of their first seven seasons. But the fan base, while wavering somewhat in recent years, has maintained its passion.
