Toronto FC head coach Ryan Nelsen got his “I told you so” moment on Saturday.

“Short-term pain for long-term gain,” was the TFC gaffer’s catchphrase through all of 2013.

Amid repeated calls for Nelsen’s head, his response was always the same: “Just wait.”

The off-season additions were stunning — all of which played a massive role in securing points in a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders here Saturday.

Brazilian international ’keeper Julio Cesar made what turned out to be a game-saving stop early in the second-half while Michael Bradley’s tireless work ethic lifted Toronto’s compete-level to a heights never before seen.

When Jermain Defoe opened the scoring midway through the first half, there was little left to be said, the 38,431 at CenturyLink Field speechless after the English striker calmly slotted past former TFC ’keeper Stefan Frei in the 17th minute.
