TORONTO - Three days before “the worst day” of Bright Dike’s life, he was thinking about what would have been the best day of his life.

On Feb. 14, the Nigerian international tweeted a photo of himself standing next to the FIFA World Cup trophy, which happened to be making a stop in Toronto on its world-wide trek.

“Not long mate! Can’t wait to watch you in the World Cup!” a follower wrote to Dike.

Three days later, amid TFC training camp, the 27-year-old World Cup hopeful suffered a devastating injury that brought an end to his World Cup dream — and put a hold on his MLS season.

“It’s one of the worst things that has ever happened to me because of the timing,” Dike told the Toronto Sun on Wednesday.

When he heard the snap, he “knew exactly what it was.”

A torn Achilles during training. His third major injury in four years — including a prior Achilles tear — one that will see him miss the World Cup and most of TFC’s much-anticipated season.
