TORONTO - No longer a laughingstock thanks to an off-season spent dropping off bags of money at the feet of top players, Toronto FC enters its eighth season in an odd place.
A first trip to the playoffs might not be thinking big enough and the idea of now being the hunted seems to appeal.
“I think there’s only one clear goal in this club’s mind right now and that’s to win the MLS Cup,” said goalkeeper Joe Bendik at the annual pre-season media dog and pony show.
Captain Stephen Caldwell said the team knows it has a target on its back.
“I sense that feeling of promise and obviously the understanding that we have to win games and we are probably the team to beat in the MLS this season,” Caldwell said.
