Toronto FC’s mission: Stay healthy with an eye towards Saturday.

The Reds entertain Serie A side AS Roma in a friendly Wednesday night sandwiched between Sunday’s 1-0 win at New England and Saturday’s showdown with Seattle Sounders.

To some, Wednesday’s contest is a nuisance, a money-making scheme that takes away from the magnitude of legitimate league games.

The club, however, is selling it as something different.

“A great experience for our guys,” head coach Ryan Nelsen said. “Hopefully we can get everyone on the field, see out the game and we want to do as well as possible and try to win the game.

“It’s also a great opportunity for everyone to kind of get some experience and some minutes in their legs and play against a world-class team.”

Nelsen’s romantic phrasing more or less means certain individuals are likely playing for jobs.
