TORONTO - Mixed messages continue to emanate from Toronto FC’s training ground north of the city.

It’s easy to feel sorry for rookie bench boss Ryan Nelsen, who for the first time Friday described the situation with adjectives he’s previously steered clear of.

“When we came in we had a very young squad, an awfully unbalanced salary cap, an awful situation,” Nelsen said ahead of Saturday’s match against the Philadelphia Union.

“It’s very hard to change it over night. Every game from now until whenever is a progression forward.”

Can’t argue with that, can you TFC supporters?

After a decent start to the season, the Reds have quickly cooled off, losing each of their past five and looking rather sluggish in a 2-0 loss at soggy New England last weekend.

Again, it’s what most of us expected, but then the mixed messages began to proliferate once again.
