Post-practice press conferences are becoming more and more cryptic at Toronto FC’s training ground, beginning with head coach Ryan Nelsen’s insistence on Thursday that the MLS playoffs are still well within reach.
“If we can stay there, even if that’s 10 points off the playoffs come the (summer transfer) window, I’ll be more than confident we’ll have a very good chance of getting in,” Nelsen said a day before the team travelled to Boston ahead of a weekend fixture against the New England Revolution.
Which begs the question: Why is Nelsen so confident this transfer window will help in changing TFC’s early-season misfortune?
“Because I like the window,” Nelsen said with an ear-to-ear grin. “It’s a nice time.”
The New Zealander’s latest tease comes a week after he told reporters the club will attempt to sign what he called a “name player” in the coming months.
