Like in many games so far this season, one mistake cost Toronto FC dearly.

As a result, the club’s winless skid stretched to nine games following a 1-0 home loss to the Columbus Crew on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds failed to corral Dominic Oduro in the 42nd minute and the speedy attacker took a fine through ball from game MVP Federico Higuain, split two defenders, and lofted a shot past a charging Joe Bendik.

Besides his fine assist, Higuain hit the crossbar and right post behind Bendik in a strong display.

Meanwhile, the Reds, now 1-6-5 in another season that’s quickly gone sideways, could generate little dangerous offensive play.

Striker Robert Earnshaw was a thorn in the side of the visitors early, getting in close but not managing any quality attempts on three opportunities and later took a free kick from just outside the box that was handled by Andy Gruenebaum.
