Managers are generally judged on their ability to accomplish two tasks: Identify talent and consistently change the complexion of games through second-half substitutions.

During Saturday's 2-2 tie with the two-time defending MLS Cup champion L.A. Galaxy at BMO Field, TFC rookie bench boss Ryan Nelsen timed his late-game replacements to perfection.

In the end, though, a pre-game decision to tinker with his starting lineup came back to haunt him in a scenario that TFC supporters have witnessed far too often.
