It’s two rookie MLS managers working under a pair of competing mantras.
Marco Schallibaum’s win-now mentality makes it seem as though the Montreal Impact’s Swiss bench boss isn’t familiar with the term rebuild.
The opposite can be said for Toronto FC’s Ryan Nelsen, who for the last two months has been preaching a blend of patience and improvement, never reacting to anything with too much or too little excitement as he continues to remold the Reds from top to bottom.
Take a step back, though, and these two rivals appear to both be on a similar mission ahead of Saturday afternoon’s match inside Olympic Stadium: To prove recent results are a sign of things to come rather than mere flukes that will be ironed out as the season wears on.
“We are confident but we know we must be ready tomorrow 100%,” Schallibaum told reporters. “(We) must confirm Seattle and Portland tomorrow.”
