A flurry of last-minute signings has Toronto FC shrouded in secrecy ahead of Opening Day at BC Place on Saturday afternoon.
No, really, TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen himself was unsure if he’d have all of his troops following pre-match training Friday night.
“The lateness of it is not ideal,” Nelsen said of the Reds inking five players Friday morning, a day before Toronto opens its seventh season against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
“We’d love to have five more weeks (of pre-season), but that’s life.”
After bringing in Queens Park Rangers winger Hogan Ephraim on loan Wednesday, TFC officially announced triallists Taylor Morgan, Ashton Bennett, Jonathan Osorio and Darel Russell as signed 24 hours before kick off.
The Reds also confirmed they’ve come to terms with striker Robert Earnshaw a day after the 31-year-old Welsh international declared himself a TFC player on Twitter.
