One Orlando City employee said it best through the first 60 minutes of Toronto FC’s 3-0 win over his club.
“We look like a mid-table MLS team right now,” he quipped, as if to say the Reds were woeful for the better part of an hour here Wednesday night.
And they were.
Don’t let the final scoreline fool you. Toronto FC, with many of its perceived starters in, made Orlando, a team comprised of a few MLS flops and semi-pro trialists, look like a well-oiled machine.
“It’s not going to be perfect every time,” head coach Ryan Nelsen said following Wednesday’s match, Toronto FC’s second of four exhibitions in central Florida.
“It’s only our second game together and we’re playing people out of positions obviously. Our numbers are short and we had to get guys minutes.”
To be fair, it’s far too early to place any blame on Nelsen or, for that matter, the club’s new president and general manager, Kevin Payne.
