Reports say veteran midfielder Julio Cesar will be joining TFC

TORONTO - In what will be the 16th stop of his journeyman career, Brazilian midfielder Julio Cesar is set to join Toronto FC.

After being released by Sporting KC at the conclusion of last season, Cesar, who has also had stints with European giants Real Madrid (Spain), Benfica (Portugal) and Olympiacos (Greece) during his two decade-long career, will join the Reds in the coming days, according to multiple sources.

As first confirmed by SoccerByIves.net Monday, the Reds will look to bolster their middle and defensive thirds with a 34-year-old veteran player who helped Kansas City finish atop the Eastern Conference during each of the past two seasons.

Although his role remains unclear, Cesar could share time with Torsten Frings, which could help preserve the club’s 36-year-old — YES, 36-year-old — aging midfielder.
